Dwight Yoakam

Why see Dwight Yoakam?

Country Icon Dwight Yoakam hits the road

The young whippersnappers of modern Country owe a lot to Dwight Yoakam. Once shunned by the Nashville elite, the pioneering singer-songwriter is credited with paving the way for Country music's acceptance in the mainstream. His 'hillbilly honkey tonk stylings' earned him a following of fans that called themselves 'Cow-Punks' in retaliation to the polite Country Pop of the late '70s.

It wasn't long before Hollywood came calling and along with international recognition came 5 Billboard number 1 albums, 12 Gold and 9 Platinum records as well as 2 Grammy Awards. With his cowboy hat tilted at a rakish angle, the 60+-year-old has still got the spark that has electrified his stellar four-decade career. The veteran's vocals are as smooth, earthy and soulful as ever, with a dose of that Country twang thrown in for good measure!

Dwight Yoakam

It was a great show. Dwight still has it even having a cold. This is the 3rd time I have seen him. The South Jubilee was sold out. He still has the eye hiding cowboy hat. He did a tribute to Merle Haggard and a couple of others. Cannot wait for Dwight to come back. Also the auction of an autographed guitar was touching as funds go to the Vets in Canada. ... Read more

Dwight Rocks Calgary

Saw Dwight Yoakam last night and thought his show was great. While Dwight was getting over a cold, his voice and singing were spot on, such a unique voice. His band was excellent (and yes loud) and rockn. I’d give the show a five out of 5 but there seemed to be a major problem with the sound coming from Dwight’s guitars. Both his electric and his acoustic (but especially his acoustic). The sound was really trebly and compressed which unfortunately really detracted from the overal sound of the band and Dwight’s singing. Great set list with lots of his hits and some great covers too. We sat near the front and while it was loud was still enjoyable. We thought the opening act, Brandi Clark was good too. ... Read more

DW, Mavericks and 49 Winchester

Wow first concert of the year for this trip. I came for DW and the Mavericks but 49 Winchester was a great start. These guys played 5 hours, minus 20 mins for break and change over. This is probably the best concert I've seen in 20 years. The mavericks did not disappoint. Everyone in the band had sincere smiles and that happy to be on the road again. Great theatricks and the squeezebox player almost stole the show. The band was tight as hell. One of Raul's guitar didn't work, he started the song with a "if this is worst thing that happens tonight it's a good night l-and it was. DW started with a blast of songs one after Another with frantic lead guitar, guitar swaps. DW joked that if the Spanish missed a beat he docks him. He also told the story of I sang Dixie which was really Cool and I never heard the stories so that was great. He apologized for some reason for playing some new stuff basically saying I know why y'all came but his new stuff was great too. Must see ... Read more
